Sweet Potato Surprise

Oh you may be laughing at me now but I have a sweet potato surprise brewing for you and it ain't so pleasant at the other end.

If you could see the back of Mercy's head you'd see that her hair is getting noticeably longer and thicker. It's hard to imagine her as a little girl with long hair, walking around and talking in sentences. I just get the feeling that those days will sneak up on us really fast.

Ankle Vampire

I think the title says it all.  I will add, if you didn't already know, that she is a proficient roller and sitter.  Many a goodly night her ma and I seat ourselves at opposing ends of the room and let her roll like a union three ton Ingersoll diesel pavement roller driver on double overtime (sheesh that's a labored simile!). She rolls in all directions but most often to her right. So, when Mercy makes it from Sara over to me I just flip her feet to where her head was and send her off the other way. It's kind of like a very slow tennis match. As for sitting, she can sit indefinitely now but she tends to flop herself down onto the floor when she gets bored or sees something she wants to give a good slobbering to (an ankle maybe?).

Lips and Toes

Mercy

Mercy likes toes

Mercy likes to nibble on her toes

Mercy likes to nibble on her toes between meals

Mercy likes to nibble on her toes between meals and grab daddy's lips

Mercy likes to nibble on her toes between meals and grab a fistful of daddy's lips

Daddy likes to read baby books to Mercy

Daddy likes Mercy's toes too

Daddy likes Mercy

Daddy

Dr. Seuss Time

Don't be fooled! She doesn't really want to see or read the next page, she just wants to eat it. She does however like to Hop on Pop.

Blah, blah, blah

Mercy has been trying to mimic our talking lately but it only amounts to her opening and closing her mouth rapidly and uttering some sort of moany gibberish punctuated by the closure of her lips. Oh and I am seeing two little bumps on her bottom gums I didn't notice before. Teeth must be on their way and according to this picture she can feel them too.

Num Num

Mercy will be six months old in only a few more days so we decided to try feeding her some solid food, rice cereal mixed with breast milk. I think you'll agree that she likes it.

Wow, she looks like a little chipmunk storing up for winter.

Heritage

(Sara guest blogs)  Today was Mercy's baby dedication.  We stood in front of our church family as a public declaration of our intention to raise Mercy in the knowledge of the Lord and to ask them to support us and keep us accountable.  It was really special, and I breathed a sigh of relief that there was no fussing, spitting up, or nose grabbing.  Mercy was very astute, looking up at Chris holding her, Pastor Dan speaking, me standing beside her, and the congregation staring at her.   We didn't plan this on purpose, but realized that today would have been my grandmother's 92nd birthday.  A special day indeed.
